Monoethanolamine (MEA) or 2-aminoethanol is the earliest amine used for gas sweetening in oil & gas industry. It is commonly used for treating synthesis gas streams to remove carbon dioxide. Mainly used in ammonia, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and flue gas facilities. MEA may be used as pH control.
