Hydrochloric acid is a clear, colourless, solution of hydrochloric acid (HCl) in water.

Its uses are numerous. Since the Industrial Revolution, HCl has gained importance particularly in large-scale production of vinyl chloride for PVC.

    Major uses of HCl include:

  • Pickling of steel (surface removal of oxide and scale)
  • Chemical manufacturing
  • Oil-field acidizing
  • pH control
  • Regeneration of ion exchangers
